Things are skewed a bit later than usual today because Junior High Guy and I spent the morning at the Gluten Free Expo in Schaumburg. You may have been there too — I’d never have seen you in the crowd because there were a few too many people for the space, but this was a really nice array of gluten free, allergy friendly vendors and products. 🙂
This is me standing for 25 minutes in the LivingSocial ticket holder line to get in — that part wasn’t as well handled, as people with regular tickets were able to walk right in with almost no lines. (Hopefully if they sell tickets through LivingSocial again next year, they’ll speed up the check-in process or up the staffing levels!) It looked a lot calmer when I left, so if you go tomorrow you may wish to head over a little later in the day.
And here’s low carb MashupDad’s favorite photo from the event — he’d eat these all day!
Jewel had a nice booth there, as did Fresh Thyme, Angelo Caputo’s, Costco, and Meijer. Fresh Thyme was passing out Mambo Sprouts booklets, a $5/$30 coupon, and other coupons, while Jewel was giving out Skinny Pop and a $5/$50 coupon. Jewel also offers free tours with registered dietitians if you have questions about gluten and allergy free products (call 630-336-0603 or email [email protected]).
Jewel is also holding gluten free fairs:
- Thurs 5/7 4-7PM 1227 Naper Blvd, Naperville
- Sat 5/9 11-2PM 370 N. Des Plaines, Chicago
- Sat 5/16 11-2PM 7525 W. Lake St., River Forest
- Sun 5/17 11-2PM 9449 N. Skokie Blvd, Skokie
I came home with a nice array of coupons and samples, and highly recommend checking out the expo tomorrow if you have a chance. It’s a great chance to check out new products from well-known brands, as well as to get an introduction to newer or smaller companies offering gluten free products — be sure to bring your appetite, as you can eat your way through the Expo while enjoying samples at almost every booth.
