Update on the girls — Our chickens 19 days later

the-girls-july-25

So here’s just a quick update on our girls! I took these pictures yesterday, so 19 days after our last update. They’ve grown QUITE a bit in a little less than three weeks — MashupDad has had to raise up their water and food a couple of times already — and you can see how nicely their feathers are coming in.

mabel

Mabel here is still the boss, although Fingers is starting to challenge her quite a bit. Nuggets is the runt, but the friendliest. We gave them a few crickets yesterday and Fingers grabbed them all, leaving none for the others, lol. Mabel was not pleased with that state of affairs, but we’re going to start letting them outside soon to grab their own bugs.

We just had a library class about raising chickens the person teaching it was great you could tell she loves chickens and cares about chickens. It was a great experience being in her class even if i dont want any chickens myself. She is actually on call when people have problems with their chickens. She said her next class might be about building chicken coops.Let me know if you need her number. Also she gave us great resources such as books and names of places to buy chicks and food for them.

We love our chickens and their eggs! Try dried mealworms as a treat. Our girls are addicted to them.
