So after ALDI, went over to the Pete’s Market grand opening in Oakbrook Terrace with Chris from deranged.me. She spent $63, and I spent $22.50 — I win!
The place was an absolute zoo, so I’ll check it out more thoroughly when the novelty wears off and things calm down over there. But at first glance, some of it seemed similar to Caputo’s — excellent and large produce section, deli, and specialty cheeses, lots of ethnic items, good organic produce prices, nice variety of halal meats (including whole halal chickens at $1.99/lb on special, if you’re in the market!). They also have a HUGE hot food bar, salad bar, and pre-made foods section for quick dinners.
Plus a gelato bar. Which was pretty good… not that I’d know… 😉
I also tried a made-to-order burrito for lunch, which was gigantic (Chipotle-sized) but surprisingly bland — was hoping for some kick.
I’ll definitely be going back regularly for produce — and it’s basically across the street from ALDI, so that should cover it! Everyday prices on most grocery items were pretty high, so this will be a produce/sales/meats store, I’m thinking.
They did have a nice selection of organic produce at decent prices, including Red Delicious apples for $.99 a lb. Plus, Organic Valley milk on sale for $2.99 — and many of the cartons had $.75/1 peelies, making it $2.24.
So what did I buy?
2 Organic Valley milk, $5.98. Used two $.75/1 peelies.
2 Dannon light & fit yogurt, $.78.
Orange cauliflower, $.86.
Green cauliflower, $.90. (All the cauliflower was $.68/lb, which beat what I just got it for at ALDI — oh well! But got the orange and green for MashupDad to try anyway, for kicks.)
Broccoli, $1.18.
2 5-packs garlic, $1.56.
2 limes, $.24.
Organic red delicious apples, $2.03.
Grape tomatoes, $.98. (Also cheaper than ALDI!)
5lb Idaho potatoes, $1.98.
Baby Bella mushrooms, $.98.
Red grapes, $1.13.
Pot roast, $4.87.
Paid $22.50. Oh, and the burrito was $5.94 with tax. I don’t know about the gelato, because Chris treated! lol
I also grabbed a grand opening ad, so will try to list some other prices later.

I have shopped at Pete's Market for years. They started on the Southwest Side of Chicago, which is where I grew up. They have many locations all over now.
I mainly shop at Pete's for the Produce and Meat and the loss leaders. I LOVE the freshness of the meat and produce and the prices are awesome on those!
I am looking forward to getting to the OakBrook Terrace location. It is right down the street from where my hubby works, so I will be there often!!

It was a beautiful store but I was not super impressed with the prices. It was crazy crowded when I went with my 2 little ones at 11am. I left without buying anything but we enjoyed the free smoothie and cheese samples! It looked like there a lot of folks getting free salad bar samples? I decided to skip that craziness. U saw fresh French bread and wheat French bread for .99 for a loaf- that I will definitely go back for!

The Pete's Market by me, in Calumet City, IL, always has the produce so matriculasly stacked, as in your photo. It's by all means a produce/fresh market.

It is on the southwest corner of Roosevelt & Summit. Kitty corner from the Walgreens -- where they tore down the old Dominick's.
