Did you catch this series?

Check out this year’s posts outlining how I’ve (so far) lost 18 pounds and improved my well-being by avoiding sugar and emphasizing real foods! Shopping ALDI and cooking at home has been invaluable in this process; what a happy side effect of meal planning. 🙂

But back to this week’s ALDI meal plan…

Let’s get ready to make six complete dinners for a family of four, just $60.00 out the door! Hope you find the free ALDI meal plans useful. This week we’ve got kind of a cilantro-lime/chili-lime theme going on — partially because I’ve been on a kick lately, and partially because most ALDI stores don’t sell single limes (so let’s make the most of a pound of limes!).

ALDI meal planning week of 9/17/17 – 9/23/17

I’m assuming here that you already have pantry basics like cooking oil, condiments, and spices. *** Read through the recipes before you shop to make sure you have the necessary pantry staples on hand.

Things to know about the ALDI meal plans

A couple of notes

  1. I try not to repeat main dish recipes more often than once a month, but you will see favorite easy recipes come up again in these weekly ALDI meal plans as the same meats and produce items come up again on sale. Part of the fun of meal planning lies in mixing old stand-bys with something new each week.
  2. If one or more of these recipes isn’t to your taste, or if you have other ingredients to use, adapt the recipes in this ALDI meal plan to your family’s preferences — or just use the ideas here to supplement your own meal planning.

Ad markets and dates

This week’s ALDI meal plan reflects prices from the current week’s ad (running 9/10-9/16 in Sunday ad markets and 9/13-9/19 in Wednesday ad markets). Non-advertised prices were collected on 9/13/17 at my local store in the Chicago suburbs, but non-advertised prices and produce deals *may vary* by location & region. In either ad market, shop any time through Saturday and start cooking on Sunday 9/17/17.

I absolutely despised cooking... I have been searching for easy recipes that wouldn't break the bank for years. I recently saw this on Pintrest and mentioned it to my little sister. I am 35 with a 3 yr old and a 4 month old, and shopping has been challenging, so my little sis had been going with me. When I mentioned it to her, and told her I had saved the list just in case, she thought I should try it. So we went to Aldi and bought everything on the list. I shop on Thursdays, and when I got home I made the meal meant for Sunday. I had to watch YouTube videos to make chopping onion and peeling garlic easy, but I actually enjoyed making the meal and it was delicious! The next day I made Monday's meal, and again, I enjoyed making it and it was soon good! Tomorrow I will be shopping g for the 3rd week based on this meal plan (as long as the plan for next week is up!). In the last 2 weeks I have made every meal for my family. My husband, my toddler and I have loved every meal. This week I used thighs instead of drumsticks because I had a freezer full of them. Anyhow, for the first time in my life I am enjoying cooking. Not only that, but my kitchen has been kept cleaner. Dishes get done right away, counters are wiped down every time the dishes are done, my cupboards and fridge get cleaned out weekly, and we have started eating dinner at the table.... with placemats! This is a huge accomplishment for me. All because some wonderful woman plans my meals for me..... thank you!

I love your site. This has been the easiest thing to follow that I have ever tried. We are showing some REAL savings in my household from using this plan. We have loved every recipe! This is the perfect mix of frugal and healthy and easy. I swear I am not only spending less money I am spending less time in the kitchen, but making foods the family actually loves.

If it was Christmas and I could just wave a wand and get whatever I wanted...the only things I would change about this site are as follows: -The Social media share buttons on the left of my screen cover words so I have a hard time seeing my grocery list -The family starts to get tired of the same flavor over time (like several weeks of Chipotle). Even though every recipe is good and every recipe is different....my guys are complaining a little about tummy issues from peppers every night. -This week has been my least favorite only because as NOT PICKY as my kids usually are I have one kid that doesn't eat Cilantro and doesn't eat chicken on the bone :) But that isn't your fault....it is hers for not knowing what is good :) HA! But I will say that I was surprised to see Chicken Drumsticks on here twice this week....though I LOVE LOVE LOVE them :) -Lastly, I would love to see an app where my grocery list was "check-off"able :)

Otherwise, it is absolutely perfect...and you should be proud of what you have done here....I hope you look at yourself in the mirror in the morning and realize what talent you have! I have REALLY enjoyed your blog :)

Thanks for the detailed comments -- and I'm so glad that the plans have been helpful. :)

- As far as the social share buttons, you're the second person to say that. I've been unable to duplicate the issue here, but don't want them to get in the way of the posts so have removed them. You'll now only find social share buttons at the bottom of the post. - As far as the chicken drumsticks, that's a function of the $60 budget and this week's sales, which include family packs of chicken drumsticks at $.69/lb. If you're buying 4-5 lbs of drumsticks, it makes sense to use them to make two meals. (So that's why some weeks you'll see more than one meal using ground beef, etc. -- it reflects the meat(s) that are on sale in a given week.) Of course you could also easily freeze half of the pack for a later meal and choose something else on one of those nights -- see more on modifying meal plans for the real world, here: http://www.mashupmom.com/modify-meal-plan-family/ - That's kind of the same issue with chipotle or other ingredients that repeat -- again, to use your example: If you're buying a can of chipotles for one meal, it makes sense within the artificial constraints of $60 for one week to use those chipotles in other meals as well, to help use up ingredients and maximize your budget. You could definitely instead keep the rest of the can in a new container in the fridge to use more intermittently, and leave the chipotles out of one of the recipes to make it milder for your family's tastes. Hope that's helpful. - I'm always thinking about ways to make the grocery list more usable, so we'll see. :)

Thanks for the kind words!
