Welcome back to Caturday with the Notorious BKL and Friends… Bad Kitties are lucky they are cute edition. Much like human toddlers, they just have to be: It’s a survival mechanism!
How has it been over a month since the last Caturday post? How time flies… In just the last month, I’ve had a middle school graduation, invested in a brand new air conditioner (sigh), and so much more. As we launch into this week’s Caturday, though, let me just say that it’s remarkably difficult to take a selfie with a cat who keeps climbing you like a tree. She certainly wasn’t going to look at the camera for me!
But, this is her new thing lately: As I sit at my computer trying to type, she likes to climb all over me and then generally drapes herself over my shoulder. It’s not that great for my workflow, but it is great for my soul… So, no complaints here.
BAD Kitties
Well, OK… maybe one tiny complaint, related to the fact that as soon as I moved the flowers into this room yesterday, The Notorious Bad Kitty Lucy took a break from climbing on me to flop down like she had every right to be on the dining table. Then, as soon as she thought no one was looking, she proceeded to chew vigorously on the leaves while trying to paw the flowers out of the vase. There’s a reason for her BAD Kitty Lucy moniker, don’t you know.
I will say, though, that cats be darned: I’ve been picking up these $3.99 flower bouquets from ALDI occasionally. They really brighten up my spirits (and table), as does the cool $1.99 vase I recently picked up at Goodwill. Yes, I’ve been in this house for 10 months now but am still slowly decorating it on a budget. 🙂
Oh look, more shenanigans! Did you know: Bookcases are great for hiding in, as well as for seeing what you can knock off the shelf on the way down.
Then again, her sister isn’t much better. Her preferred hangout lately? In front of the living room TV. While we’re watching it. As my dad used to say: She makes a much better door than she does a window.”
Fresh air, don’t care
Maybe The Notorious BKL is just a little feisty from all the fresh air. I mean, it’s not every day you get to visit the backyard trampoline in your fetching pink harness.
Or, maybe she can also sense the neighborhood visitors: This handsome black cat comes to hang out and soak up a little attention on occasion, then hops the fence and goes on his merry way.
Who needs toys?
BKL is the only one who really wants to visit the great outdoors. Bad Kitty Gnocchi is content to hang out indoors with her very favorite toy — Yes, that is two shoelaces tied together. Forget all the toys specifically designed for cats: String is where it’s at.
A good cardboard box, of course, runs a close second. The cats are so happy that we shopped on Amazon Prime Day, because they now have their pick of multiple sizes of kitty condos. (I got a couple of needed items, like a new mailbox and a leaf blower — did you pick up anything good?)
And how is your Caturday?
How is your own cat-filled (or cat free) week going? Here, I’m hoping that this new air conditioner is the last major home repair we need to do for a while. (Even the cats were a little too warm, while ours was out during a muggy Chicago summer here.) And, be sure to tune in next time for the latest in the exciting ongoing Caturday adventures of the Notorious BKL and Friends.
