Welcome back to Caturday with The Notorious BKL and Friends: Back to School Edition. So when I was a kid (back in the “olden days,” according to my newly-minted middle-schooler), we never went back to school until after Labor Day — and then we didn’t get out until mid-June. I’m still not sure how I feel about this mid-August through Memorial Day type schedule they have going on in our area now, but I guess it all works out the same in the end, right?
Both kids went back this week: Mr. 11 is now Mr. Middle School Guy, and High School Guy is now safely ensconced in a new dorm room at IMSA. And what a quick and crazy summer this was!
But back to school, as everyone knows, is really all about the cats. Whether they’re busy overseeing the dorm room packing, or with claiming the various bits of packaging from new shoes and such, they are an integral part of the entire process.
And that’s even down to providing a companionable presence during some last-minute summer reading that probably should have been finished earlier than the week school started!
With the kids now gone most of the time, at least the three bad kitties will have less to supervise — which will free up more of their time for sunbeam napping and keeping an eye on that annoying squirrel in the backyard.
Although, there is clearly a certain standard of cleanliness that must be enforced before their young human charges can be allowed out into the world.
So, how’s your Caturweek (or cat-free week) going?
That’s about it for this week’s Caturday! So, since that’s us for now, I’ll leave you with an obligatory first day of school photo and the usual question: How’s your own Caturweek (or cat-free week) going? Be sure to tune in next time for the next episode in the exciting adventures of the Notorious BKL and Friends!
