New nutrition labels are coming to most packaged foods near you this July, and the FDA has posted the above preview of what they’re going to look like. On the left above, an example of a current nutrition label. On the right, an example of the revamped nutrition label.
One big change: These new nutrition labels will list the exact amount of added sugar in packaged foods, as opposed to the total grams of sugar listed now. This allows you to see how much sugar has been added by the manufacturer, and how much is present naturally in ingredients such as fruit.
Other changes include: Larger type for calorie info, a modified list of required nutrients that must be declared, and revamped serving sizes to more accurately reflect how much people actually tend to eat.

I think this change is both fantastic and long overdue! What do you guys think of the updated nutrition labels?

Of course... the sugar industry/manufacturers are crying foul over this. Too much sugar is unhealthy and they know it... suck it up, already.

How about the Calories from fat? I don't see that on the new label.

I'd rather they list all of the Splenda, stevia, and other such items that are suddenly appearing in packaged foods.

I like it---I like knowing what is in the food that I buy. It is interesting to see how much additional sugar is added by the manufacturer, and I also like seeing the calories and serving size in larger print.

Meh. Sugar is sugar. You can still get fat eating too much natural sugar. Not that there is thing such a thing as unnatural sugar, biochemically speaking.
