So, what’s better than a yummy jar of nut butter? A yummy jar of organic, non-GMO, gluten free, vegan, and Kosher nut butter! I recently had the opportunity to try out several varieties of organic Once Again Nut Butter, so let me tell you about what we thought of these — plus some great ways to use them.
Spoiler alert: All four of the varieties of Once Again Nut Butters we tried here were excellent: Sunflower seed butter, creamy roasted almond buter, creamy peanut butter, and creamy cashew butter. (The almond and cashew butters are unsweetened, while the sunflower seed and peanut butters contain organic sugar.) Note that all of their nut butters are best refrigerated after opening, and may need to be stirred before use due to naturally occurring oil separation.
Aren’t these lovely? The perfect texture for spreading — or for eating with a spoon. (We don’t judge over here…)
Mr. 10 prefers the peanut butter with apple slices for a protein-packed & filling afternoon snack. Because everything’s more fun when you can dip it, right? It’s a great consistency for dipping, and he was an instant fan — apparently good snacks make homework more tolerable. 🙂
Now as for the cashew butter — oh, that cashew butter! It. Is. Amazing. If you can restrain yourself from just eating it directly out of the jar with a (very large) spoon, what I did here was combine 1/3 cup cashew butter with 1/2 tsp dried Harissa seasoning to kick it up just a little. This makes a great dip for baby carrots or for other sweet & crunchy veggies like pepper strips.
I’m also, however, intrigued by the curried-cashew cauliflower recipe on the Once Again site, so think that’s in our future the next time I pick up a head of cauliflower at the store! Yum.
Keep it simple with the almond butter: It’s great on sourdough toast with a side of strawberries. I love that their almond butter is unsweetened, too, so that the taste of the almonds really shines through.
Cookies and milk, anyone? Once Again Sunflower Seed Butter makes for a simple and easy gluten free cookie: Just combine one cup sugar, one cup sunflower seed butter, and one egg in a large bowl. Form into balls (dough will be very sticky), roll in sugar, and place on a greased cookie sheet. Press each down lightly with a fork, then bake at 350 degrees for 17 minutes, flipping tray around halfway through.
(If you have other food allergies in your home, however, it’s important to note that the sunflower seed butter is processed in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree nuts, and soy.)
Once Again Nut Butters give back
Mr. 10 is very taken with the Once Again mascot…
Not only do Once Again Nut Butters taste great, they help give back to the community and also follow fair trade & sustainability standards. Embodying their “we spread integrity” tagline, Once Again:
- Develops & supports small organic farms & cooperatives.
- Makes annual donations to disaster victims, impoverished Americans, and other community support efforts.
- Supports educational, medical, and employment programs in Nicaragua.
They’ve also been employee-owned since 1976, and also — MashupDad will like this — support regional beekeepers from family farms.
